THE MINING SWINDLE.

A RESURRECTED MINE. THE MINES DEPARTMENT EXONERATED. Mki.hoi k.nk. This day. The Government Geologist's report oil the Btichan mine shows that the officer inspected the mine twenty years ago when it was known as the Back Creek mine. When Morgan described the mine he was opening up, the Geologist failed to recognise it as the old Back Creek mine, and thought it was a new discovery. The report doubts whether ten tons of ore could now be raised from the mine and states that not more than £I,OOO had been spent on the mine, therefore those who found the i 10.000 which was alleged to have been spent, were grossly deceived. The report exonerates the officers of the Mines Department of the charge of making misleading statements.
