Rumors of War.

A LITTLE PREVIOUS. [By Telegraph] [Special to Standard.] Wellington, This day. A stupid rumor was persistently circulated yesterday that England had declared war against Turkey. It was prompted possibly by the Telegraph Department's announcement that communication between France and London was interrupted. The Governor was asserted to have received a message, but Government House knew nothing about it. The excitement was accentuated by the Rev. Hasketh Smith, who preached in the evening at St Peter's, announcing the declaration of war as a fact, and drawing a vivid picture of the bloody struggle that must ensue.
