At the Bicycle Club's Championship meeting on Saturday, a 25-mile race took place between M'Donnell and Martin. The American, who rode a waiting race, eventually beat M'Donell by about three-quarters of a lap. The Austrian Consul's version of the Solomon Island massacre confirms the previous account. Over twenty natives were killed before they were beaten off. It has been decided to hold a People's Federal Convention at Bathurst on November 10th. Invitations arc being issued to all leagues, and municipal councils to send delegates. Melbourne, This day. The Premier has again wired Mr Reid to fix the time for the Federal Convention at the end of February or the beginning of March, otherwise the sittings of the Convention will clash with the local Parliament. Adelaide, This day. Mr 0. Loughan, the Government whip, succeeded the late Mr Magillin as Minister of Lands.
