THE 1.0. G.T. CONCERT.
,[To the Editor.] Sir, —I wag greatly surprised at seeing such a false report of the above concert given by the Hastings correspondent of the Daily Telegraph in Thursday's issue of that paper. In the first place he stated that the proceedings terminated in a fight, which statement is absolutely tintrue, {he nearest approach to one being the confusion caused by putting out one of the larrikins for disturbing the meeting, and this took place about the middle of the programme instead of the conclusion. Secondly, he states that the police were sent for. This also is entirely incorrect, as those officers entered the building* solely on their own free will. Lastly he informs us that after the concert the hoots and yells could be heard above the music of the departing Drum and Fife Band. This i 3 a most scanadjlous assertion, aa the audience retired as quietly as possible. May I ask " Our Own Correspondent'' if he was present on the night in question, or whether he was tipped an extra glass from an anti-Prohibitionist to whom the Good Templars' meetings are gall and wormwood. Thanking yon for publishing these few lines.—l am, &c., Eyb Witness. Baggage, September lsh, 1896.
