After a lengthy discussion it was agreed to grant MrWalkden 18 months' leave of absence on full pay, on the understanding that the engagement would be terminated at the end of that period. This was carried by 9to 6. A meeting of ratepayers last evening decided by a very large majority, it was inadvisable for the Sydenham Council to proceed further with the £6,000 loan without the consent ol the ratepayers,
