The Mackenzie Entertainment.

The Mackenzie popular enfceEtafjfc* ment in the Princess Theatre* last evening attracted a fairly good house, but in keeping with the excellent programme promised the hall should have been crowded. A really good entertainment at prices within the reach of all is an investment so seldom offered Hastings theatre-goers that it is surprising that the only Mackenzie was not fairly rushed. But no doubt other amusements militated against his success. Last evening every item on a lengthy programme was successful, and Mr Mackenzie was never in better voice. The items that seemed to catch on most were " Simon the Cellarer" and " Off to Philadelphia." Miss Glover further added to her reputation as an elecutionist, and she was also highly successful as Maggie Macfalane in " The Bonnie Fishwife." Master Mackenzie was loudly applauded for his excellent stepdancing, and Mr Crowther did his very best on a stiff-working piano. Miss Marette, a Napier young lady, with a sweet soprano voice, received great recognition for her excellent rendering of " Barasco " and again in " Beauty's Sleep," and Miss Nellie Caul ton, of Hastings, sang " Whisper and I shall hear '' faultlessly, giving promise of considerable ability as a contralto. At the conclusion the audience joined in singing " Auld Lang Syne." It is understood that Mr Mackenzie will give another entertainment shortly.
