Restored after Execution.

A singular case is reported from Galviston, Texas. About a year ago Mary Hicrgins in a fit of anger killed the little son of a neighbor. She was arrested, tried'on a charge of murder, found guilty, and hanged. This took place in May. After her execution her body was delivered to her family, who, with the assistance of a physician, succeeded in bringing her back to life. She was a married woman, and was informed by a clergyman that her .marriage was annulled by her legal death, and that the marriage ceremony must be performed over again. This was done. The couple went to another part of the state to live, but the truth leaked out, and a warrant was prepared for her arrest, the officials urging that the sentence of death imposed had not been carried out. The woman's lawyer claims that it was, and that she was only restored to life by a new process, which cannot be made public. The sheriff who officiated at the hanging is now charged with not having properly performed it, but his defence is that the gaol physician pronounced life extinct before the body was lowered from the scaffold. Thus the matter stands at present. The woman is at liberty, and there is not much likelihood of her being deprived of it.
