CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION REPORT. WARM PASSAGE-AT-ARMS. Sydney, Sept. 10. In the Assembly Mr Lyne moved that the Chairman leave the chair because of the non-presentation of the promised report of the Public Revenue Commission. He indignantly urged the injustice inflicted on the retrenched civil servants in absence of information owing to the masterfulness of the commission. lie characterised their proceedings as hole and corner work. The Premier replied warmly that as soon as the Board had dealt with the appeals the report would be presented. When that time comes members would, perhaps, find that the report gave more information than they bargained for. The Board had carried out a very great work admirably and had saved nearly £300,000 per annum. Many worthless officers had been got rid of. In no less than seventeen cases the Board had ascertained that dismissed officers had pilfered the State funds, and in others incompetent men were kept on in their places through influential friends. The days of the old political patronage had gone, and it would be well for Civil Servants to remember that. The motion was negatived by 53 to 27. __
