THE CUBANS GAINING GROUND PHILLIPINE INSURGENTS DEFEATED. Madrid, Sept. 9. The Cuban rebellionists are steadily improving their position, and Genera! Weyler, the Spanish leader, appears unable to keep the rebels back. It is believed that the Americans have been supplying them with arms and ammunition. there being a plentiful supply. The Philippine Island insurgents have suffered defeat at the hands of the Island troops, 58 being killed and a number ■wounded. A number of wealthy residents were executed by order of the Spanish Governor-Gene-ral, Major Blanco, and 350 others exiled.
