A conference of the prohibition party with the Rev. Isitt Brothers took place at the Y.M.C.A., Auckland, yesterday, and was largely attended. The Rev. F. W. Isitt spoke briefly of the progress of the prohibition movement in New Zealand. Referring to the coming election, he said there was some lively fighting to be done. No one could say what would be the result in the cities, but from Invercargiil right along to North Canterbury a veryconsiderable area would, he believed, be brought under prohibition. In the North Island, too, things looked very hopeful. He thought it would be a good thing if the Churches would release their ministers from as many other duties as possible for about six weeks before the election, in order that they might advance the cause of the temperance party. The Rev. L. M. Isitt said it would be a scandal to his own Church and to the other Churches if they did not identify themselves with this movement at the coming election. An informal discussion concerning matters relating to the licensing law and the organisation of the prohibition party followed.
