THE TICK.
The Government, as we anticipated, have taken every precaution to prevent immigration of the Queensland tick into this colony. The Minister of Lands in reply to a question on the subject, stated that tne Agricultural Department was taking every precaution. The importation of cattle, hides, bones, &c., from Queensland had been prohibited, and Mr Gilruth, the Government Veterinary Surgeon, who was specially instructed to make enquiries regarding the plague, is expected to send in his report in the next few days, and his recommendations will doubtless receive careful attention. The tick will get here in spite, of the embargo placed upon him, for it will be impossible to stop him should he choose to conceal himself in the clothing, bags, blankets, &c., of the travellers from Queensland. The Government has done its duty as far as it is possible, and an acknowledgement of the fact is only fair.
