GENERAL ITEMS. Sydney, This day. As part of a scheme to find work for the unemployed, tlie Government have arranged to clear three million acres of scrub country on the Bogan river, which will provide work for one thousand men. Already a million acres of land have been applied for under the scrub leases. The new steamer C-hendara went ashore in the Tweed river, and is breaking up. Information has been received that the French New Hebrides Company has despatched two steamers from Havre to take up the company's trade between New Hebrides and New Caledonia.
