TYPHOONS AND REBELLIONS. Sydney, This day. News from Hong Kong states that on July 9th a typhoon visited there, and forty-three people were killed. Immense damage was done to property and shipping. The repression of the Formosa rebellion is having a disastrous effect on the island, and the flourishing towns of C'hi pel up and Hoonin have been completely destroyed, the people having lied to the hills for safety. It is estimated that 40,000 Chinese have been driven from their homes, and are camped in the open. Half of them are utterly destitute. Four hundred of the Japanese army attacked the brigand, chief's stronghold, but had to retreat with 200 killed.
