+ A young man named John Shannon has been committed for trial in Nelson for attempting suicide. He cut his throat with a razor, repented, and gave himself up to the police. Evidently Miv Mills, M.H.R., is not satisfied that the confession of Hareford that the gun with which the Kaiwarra murder was committed was buried in a grave in a Wellington cemetery was a hoax, as they are making further investigations and digging up more resting places. The Hokitika Supreme Court calendar is a light one. Jas. Smith, who was arrested for arson after a fire epidemic at Reefton, was acquitted. The Palmerston Industrial Exhibition was opened with great eclat by the Premier last evening. The whole show is a very creditable one, and is likely to proye a big attraction.
