[By Telegraph.]

[Special to Standard.]

Wellington, This day

The Marine Department has determined to adopt the plan recommended by Captain Allman of establishing a pigeon service to those lighthouses which cannot be reached by telegraph or telephone. These are Makohano and Curvier in Auckland, Cape Palliser in Wellington, The Brothers in Cook Strait, Dog Isle, the centre island in Foveaux Strait, Puysegur Point, and the Snares. When erected there will be three homing departments, one at Soames Island in Wellington Harbor, Dog Island, and one near Auckland.
