FIRE AT SEA.
THE FATE OF THE FLORA STAFFORD. THE CREW SUFFER GREAT HARDSHIP. TWO MEN MISSING. ONE BOAT NOT YET HEARD OF. Sydney, Sept. 7. Details of the abandonment of the Flora Stafford thows she had a cargo of 1900 tons of Seaham coal, which caught fire on June Gth in mid ocean. The Hames gained rapidly, and the ship had to be abandoned. Two days after the crew got away ( , the three boats were separated by a typhoon. The captain's boat, containing six men, after much suffering, made the island of Papua, but the Natives were hostile, and drove them off with spears. He made for another island and sent two men ashore. The boat waited off the island for five days', but as they did not return it is feared both were killed. They could get no provisions, but finally reached the island of Mento, where they were kindly received and forwarded to Manilla. The second boat with the boatswain and six men were driven ashore on the island of Cuingo, and finally reached Manilla safely. The third boat containing four men ii still missing.
