A Young Wife in Trouble.

A girl, who said her name was Nellie Hall, applied at the North London police court in July for advice with reference to her husband. She said her age was 15 years and nine months, and that she was married to a postman six weeks ago at the Islington registry office. The ceremony took place at two p.m. At three the husband went out and did not return until 10.30. They quarrelled all night, and next day applicant went to Scarborough to see her aunt. The husband wrote asking her to come back, and she did so, but meantime he had heard a peculiar story respecting her. He then refused to have anything to do with her, and since then he had locked her out. She came to this court, she said, and got a summons against her husband for desertion. The solicitor who appeared for the husband stated that his client had instituted proceedings for divorce, and the magistrate made no order. Since then, continued the applicant, she had returned to her husband's lodgings, but he declined to admit her, and she now asked what she could do, as she had no means of support. Mr Bros said that directly her husband caused her to be served with a citation in divorce she could apply to to the Court for alimony. Applicant : But I haven't been served. Mr Bros : Then if you have no means you must apply to the relieving officer. When told that she would have to go into the workhouse the girl said she would not go.
