Children's Ball.

The children's plain and fancy dress ball in connection with the Athenaeum in the Princess Theatre last evening was quite as successful as that on the previous evening. In fact, the sight was as pretty as could be seen in any community. Fancy dresses were numerous, and little dots of six summers were enjoying themselves quite as much as their eldei-s. The children were natural, and their movements as graceful as could be wished. There were over 200 present, and when the lights were turned low and a powerful limelight, skilfully manipulated by Messrs Tyerman and George, was thrown on the scene with varying shades, the effect was striking in the extreme. To the onlookers the ball was especially attractive, and the dancing of the gavotte was greeted with applause. In this dance there were two . sets comprised as follows :—First set—Eva Wellwood, Ivy Gallien, Emily Purvis, Jessie Purvis, Jessie McConnell, Lois D'Emden, Bessie Hartshorn, and Minna Taylor; second set —Euby Wellwood, George Maddison, George D'Emden, Terry Wellwood, Henry Drummond, Gertie Tyerman, Theo D'Emden, and Annie Donnelly. The manner in which it was carried out reflected great credit on the children, and on their tutor, Mrs Tyerman. The floor was in splendid order, and the music by Miss N. Caulton all that could be desired. Extras were contributed by Mrs Wellwood, Miss Eobertson, Miss Kelly, Miss Caulton, and Mr J. Holroyd. The supper was good, and judging by the manner in which it disappeared it was greatly appreciated. Amongst the fancy dresses were the following : Miss George, Phyllis Miss Wrigley, Girofle Miss E.
