The Banking Inquiry.

(By Telegraph.) Special to Standard. Wellington, This day. Mr Watson was further examined before the Banking Committee this forenoon. In answer to the Minister of Lands he admitted that it was an irregular thing for Mr Butt, the Government auditor, to have an agreement from the Bank of New Zealand that when the Government were dispensing services the bank should reinstate him. Mr Butt admitted that, but the gravity of the point did not strike him at the time. Witness did not think this agreement operated on Mr Butt in the the transaction of his duties as Government officer. The Premier said there would only be four or five witnesses outside of the bank directors, and the inquiry should be over in three weeks. The committee adjourned till 10.30 on Monday.
