A 'Stampede of a mob of sheep took place on a station near Milton recently, with the result that they rushed down into a steep gully one on top of the other, some 600 of the mob being destroyed by suffocation. The money taken from the till at the Makotuka railway station was all in notes. It is concluded that although the theft was so neatly executed as to leave no clue to the identity of the thief the person who did the work was but a novice in the " art," as the safe, which rumor has it, was " well lined," had apparently not been tampered with at all. The surmised manner in which the burglar's operations were conducted is that someone who was in the office previous to closing time had, tmpereeived, unlatched! the window, and when the coast was clea*s. entered by way of the window and helgeil himself.—Bush Advocate.
