THE TICK PLAGUE.

QUEENSLAND LEFT ALONE. A STOCK INSTITUTE PROPOSED. Bkisbank, August 20. The Tick Conference delegates have returned. The secretary states that the principal result of the conference was to enable the southern colonies to ascertain the true facts in order to allay any unreasonable panic. Personally he said the proceedings had fortified his own opinion that Queensland would have to play a '■ lone hand." and that it was advisable to establish a Stock Institute for the colony. They could not expect much help from the other colonies, and the proper course therefore would be to establish an institute with the very best talent the world could provide. He hoped this would have been made a federal matter, but his observations at the Conference had taught him that it was far otherwise.
