A gas lamp for cycles, which seems to ! promise well, is being brought out by the Turnev Illuminator Company. According to the makers* statements the lamp develops no less than ninety-six candle power, and lights the rider's path for 100 ft ahead. It can be recharged in a couple of minutes at a cost of three half-pence, is very simple in construction, and is guaranteed not to jolt out or blow out in the strongest wind. The gas used is acetylene. Silver weddings are not uncommon, but it is rarely we hear of silver betrothal. There is, however, one which has recently been brought to light. The engaged couple first pledged theirtroth in December. 1866. The young lady's aunt threatened to "cut her off with a shilling " if she dared to get married. Consequently the loving couple had to forego their most ardent wish—viz the prospect of a speedy marriage. Still, | they remained true to their pledge during this interminable courtship. Not so long ago the hard-hearted aunt joined the majority, but bv the desire of the intended husband the wedding was postponed, so that they might celebrate the twenty-fifth MUUYeraary of- their belroth&l.
