Auckland, August 11

The Kaneiri brought up from Waitara a side of beef that had been frozen for two months and thawed again by the new process recently invented by Mr Peck, of the freezing works, Waitara. It is said by experts to be scarcely distinguishable from freshkilled meat.

A petition to Parliament is in course of signature protesting against increasing the power of the Auckland City authorities to levy rates. Gisborne, August 11.

A Miners* Association was formed this afternoon to prospect for gold or other precious minerals in Poverty Bay. The exports from Gisborne for the year ended June 80th last, are shown to include 75,640 carcasses and 27,252 pieces frozen mutton, 15,115 bales wool, 1006 casks tallow, 550 casks pelts, and 1140 quarters beef, valued roughly at £250,000. Since 1892 the export of wool has increased by 50 per cent and the export of mutton by over 70 per cent. The body found washed up cn the beach has been identified as that of William Brelgnan, a laborer, who disappeared on June 13th. At- the inquest it was shown that the deceased had been drinking some time preHe was last seen going in the direction of the Waipaoa river. A search was made in the river for several day without effect. The jury returned a verdict of " found drowned." Palme eston" North, August 11.

The football match to-day between Canterbury and Manawatu was played in fine weather and before a large number of spectators. The game resulted in » win for Canterbury by eight pginfa to three.
