A BARBAROUS GOVERNOR FOR HERAKLION. CHRISTIANS MURDERED IN A MONASTRY. Athens, August 10. Colonel Abdullah, noted for his cruelty towards Christians, has been appointed Governor of Heraklion. A thousand armed Moslems murdered 80 Christians in St. John's Monastery, Crete. They also plundered and set fire to the churches and burned a priest alive after mutilating him. Many sacred pictures were destroyed by fire by the Moslems. Eight officers of the Athens garrison have sailed for Crete in a steamer, which also carries a large gn'MSly of arms and ammunition. 1
