Mr Hagan has given notice in the House of Commons that he will ask Mr Chamberlain whether, during the recess, he will reconsider his refusal of Queensland's request for the separation of Central Queensland. Gaudaur has agreed to row Stan bury on the Thames on September 6. The Healey Party accept the Marquis of Landowne's amendment to the Irish Land Bill, but condemns that moved by Lord Macnaghtley, which provides for restoring fair rent clauses in the old form. Belgrade, August 6. The Irongate canal, which will be opened on 27th September, will improve the navigation of the Danube. Constantinople, August G. The Macedonian bands having been increased they inflicted a defeat on four hundred of the Turkish force, who retreated with heavy loss. Izmerlian, the Armenian patriarch, has resigned. Brussells, August 6. M. Symans, counsel on behalf of the Congo Free State, has abandoned the prosecution of Major Lothaire, and asked for his acquittal. Lisbon, August 5. The Lisbon newspapers state that England has recognised Brazil's sovereignty over the little island of Trinidad, which it was recently announced, had been annexed by England. St. Petersburg, August 5. The first train upon the Siberian railway has arrived at Tomsk. Cape Town, August 5. A squadron of Hussars has left Maugue for the Kamie river.
