A CHANGE NEEDED.
On Monday next the annual meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club will be held, when it is to be hoped that some member with sufficient backbone will stand up for the claims of Hastings to have the headquarters of the Club where they will be more convenient to all patrons. A remarkable thing, in connection with the manner in which the business of the Club is conducted, is that since the Standard took up the cudgels on behalf of Hastings, in asking that the question of the change should be considered on its merits, at least three communications asking for a share of advertising, have been orcrliHilr/l by the secretary. We do not for a moment believe that Mr Luckie would intentionally exceed his functions, but as a mere matter of courtesy it is at least business-like to acknowledge such communications. At the last race-meeting, a written application for the usual press privileges for the Standard was quietly ignored, and personal application had to be made before the passes were available, although numerous papers outside Hastings acknowledged the receipt of the favors. Evidently the secretary does not view with favor the remarks we have made with regard to a muchneeded change, but we will continue to fight for the greatest good to the greatest number in spite of these apparent slights.
