PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.
IN HOUSE AND COUNCIL
[By Telegraph.]
•fFrom our Special Correspondent.) Wellington, this day. The Council yesterday afternoon adjourned out of respect to the memory of the late J. E. Fitzgerald, Controller and Auditor-General. The Hon Mr Walker, Sir George Whitmore, and the Hon Mr Bowen spoke feelingly of the deceased gentleman and of his undoubted abilities. In the House the Premier moved the adjournment as a mark of respect to Mr Fitzgerald, and paid a high tribute to his memory. The Leader of the Opposition followed in a eulogistic speech. Sir Robert Stout also spoke, expressing the opinion that the deceased gentleman was the greatest orator New Zealand ever heard, and that his speeches were never surpassed in any part of the world. The House adjourned at 3 p.m. until 7.80.
