LET THERE BE LIGHT.

[To the Editor.] Sib, Lighten our darkness we beseech the Oh City Fathers on such dismal nights as that of yesterday. In the front street, where the footpaths are passable, the gas was turned up, but wherever there was a likelihood of a person losing his life in a lagoon in the back thoroughfares the lamps were not lit. If it is on the score of economy that these things come to pass I cannot compliment the Borough Council on their action, for their fees from impounding prosecutions would surely go a long way towards lighting a few lamps on pitch-dark nights.—l am, &c., Candles.
