HEAVY RAINFALL IN THE WELLINGTON DISTRICT. THE NEW GOVERNMENT STEAMER. [By Telegraph.] Special to Standard. Wellington, this day. The excessive rainfall which has taken place of late has caused serious slips on the Rimutaka line, and last night the train was blocked on the Summit, slides having come down in front and behind. The passengers had a very unpleasant experience, as they were detained for hours. The new Government steamer, named the Tutanekai, is advised as having sailed for New Zealand on the 24th.
