GENERAL ITEMS. Sydney, July 26. With reference, to the surprise expressed by New Zealand at the prohibition of the importation of swine into New South Wales from that colony, the Minister of Agriculture explains that it is only following the practice adopted in regard to scab, by allowing a certain time to elapse after the colony has been declared clean in the case of swine fever. Twelve months is the time fixed upon since the last case was known. A man named Fahey, while making a flash-light compound for scenic effect at the Cyclorama, was killed by an explosion of the material. A fellow workman was injured. The football match between Queensland and New South Wales yesterday resulted in a victory for the victory by 13 points to 7Melbourne, July 25. The financial statement will be delivered on Tuesday and will show a large deficiency. It is understood that Government do not intend to propose any new taxation, but will endeavor to make the ends meet by further retrenchment. Brisbane, July 26.
