GENERAL ITEMS. Gisborne, July 24. The report of Mr John Boylan, civil engineer, Auckland, upon the water supply for Gisborne, favors the Waihirihi'ri creek, eight miles from town, as the best source of supply. This would give a constant high pressure supply fully equal to the requirements of the town at a cost, including a storage reservoir for 5,000,000 gallons, of £16,193, and would entail a rate of Bcl in the £l. New Plymouth, July 24. The shop occupied by Mr Rendell, draper, was burglarised on Thursday night. Twenty-eight shillings and a quantity of clothing were taken. Skeleton keys were used. The scow Eclipse, which it was feared had foundered m Lyttekon harbor on Wednesday night, turned up safely to-day, having anchored behind Quail Island for shelter. Dunkdin, July 24. John Bell was committed for trial for the theft of a watch from a fellow seaman on the Manapouri in Auckland in 1893. It is still raining, but no danger from floods is now apprehended. In Chambers to-day, application was made on behalf of the liquidators of the Colonial Bank to sanction the acceptance of compromises offered by certain debtors. His Honor, after perusing the affidavit in each case, sanctioned the whole of the compromises suggested. Ixyebcargill, July 24. The police are making inquiries regarding the death of a married woman in the country district who had been attended by a practitioner lately arrived in the colony, but who has not yet so far as is known complied with the law as to lodging his diploma with the Registrar.
