EXTENSIVE SCRIP FORGERY.

SOME £3OOO INVOLVED. THE FORGER ARRESTED. Melboubne, July 22. A heavy forgery of scrip in the Junction mine, North Broken Hill, has come to light, and a man named Slattery has been arrested. Some uncertainly prevailed as to whether more than one was connected with the fraud until Slattery made a full confession. It seems it was the man's first crime, and he was induced to commit the crime by the fact that he went to pay a call on 1100 J unctions on the last day, and he had left the scrip at Carterton and Company's. The officials would not accept his money, and he forfeited the shares. Slattery took action against the company, but having no money to go on with it, the idea came into his head to forge scrip equal to what he had lost. Slattery realised £3200 by the sale of forged scrip. With the exception of a small amount this has been recovered.
