This was a great race, and one of the most exciting finishes ever seen at the Hutt. Narrate came a cropper and lost his rider. In the two miles, weight seemed to tell, and Kauri Gum with his 9st 81b managed to get home after a big struggle with Rangipunehu. Div., £8 4s. Maiden Steeplechase, 2i miles. Otaieri was well backed, but proved very disappointing. How's That came down at one of the jumps. Violence won rather easily from Black Dust and Sir Athol. Div., £6 3s. Maiden Hack, 6 furlongs.
