PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.
IN HOUSE AND COUNCIL. [By Telegraph.] (From our Special Correspondent.) Wellington, this day. There is an important omission from the Hansard report of the proceedings of the House on Tuesday, 14th July. Upon that day the Speaker, in relation to his ruling upon the "base liar" language of the Minister of Lands on the previous Thursday, said: "He hoped the matter would be overlooked by the Minister for Lands." This language does not appear, nor any equivalent for the words, in the Hansard report issued to-day. More is likely to be heard of the matter. Owing to the -Council having adjourned for ten days, the vacancy on its Banking Committee caused by the death of the Hon. E. Pharazyn cannot be filled.
The House will on meefingto-morrow afternoon at once adjourn until the evening, when the Financial debate will be begun. It is rumored that Mr Theo. Cooper advised the Bank of New Zealand not to pay Mr "Watson's fine and that there is no means of enforcing payment, but that the directors at a meeting on Saturday afternoon decided to disregard the opinion of their legal adviser and pay the fine. Intimation has been forwarded by Sir Maurice O'Rorke to Mr Watson that the fine must be paid before tomorrow, failing which the matter will be reported to the House. The Banking Committee of the Council met to-day for the purpose of taking evidence concerning the Estates Company's position. The witnesses examined this forenoon were Messrs Todd (chairman) and Eraser (member) of the Realisation Board. Later. Mr Foster, manager of the Realisation Board, was under examination before the Council Banking Committee this afternoon.
