ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION

OF THE FRENCH PRESIDENT. THE WOULD-BE MURDERER SAID TO BE INSANE. Pakis, July 15. An attempt was made on the life of the President, who had two shots fired at him without effect by an official who had been discharged. A large crowd pursued the would-be assassin, and the authorities had great difficulty in preventing the man from being lynched. He declares that the revolver was only loaded with blank cartridge, and he had adopted this means of bringing his grievance to light. It is thought the man is insane. The President remained quite calm over the affair, and received a great ovation from those present.
