GENERAL ITEMS. Auckland, July I I. Geffrey, the escaped prisoner from New South Wales, was taken back by the Anglian to-day in charge of Constable Campenell, of the New South Wales police. The Papakura Hotel was burned down this morning. The origin of the fire is unknown. The building was insured for 4*600 in the Imperial office, but the insurance on the stock is not known. Carl Matson and Hannah Bertha Clark were brought up at Lawerence to-day and charged with the murder of Mrs Matson. A remand was granted till Friday. The inquest will be reopened to-morrow.
