V.R.C. Grand National.

DUNGAN WINS THE STEEPLECHASE. Melboukne, July 11. The second day's racing of the Victoria Racing Club was held to-day. The following was the result of the Grand National Steeplechase, Dungan (Carey)... ... 1 Timoni (Brewer) ... 2 Dondi (Smith) 8 Songster, Larnook, Quicklight, Joi, Mikado 11., Grandwing, Waiter, Leap Year, Mercury, and Whernside also started. On the fall of the flag Whernside took up the running with Dungan and Joi and Timoni next. Going along the back of the course Whernside fell back, and before the sheds were reached Songster had taken up the running, and shortly afterwards Whernside and Larnook fell. Going out of the straight Quicklight and Songster were taking the field along at a fair pace, but at the back Dondi shot out with the lead, with Timoni in second place, Joi and Dungan also being handy. Dondi held his position until half way down the straight when he challenged by Dungan, and after a good set-to between the placed horses the latter won by a long neck from Timoni, who came with a great rattle at the finish. Time, smm 58sec. Betting—4 to 1 against Joi, 7to 1 Mikado 11, 10 to 1 Dungan and Dondi.
