HAWKE'S BAY HUMF CLUB STEEPLECHASE MEETING. A large number of sports left Hastings and district to witness the races at Onga Onga yesterday. The weather was fine, and the sport exciting, especially the Final Steeples, when it was doubtful whether any of the horses would see the winning post. In the first race Mr I). D. Evans, the popular secretary, had a nasty spill on Pyramus, and being thus incapacitated MiArthur Hyde kindly took his mount in the big Steeples, Avhich, by the wfry, is over the highest juries in New Zealand. The following are the results : Maiden Hurdles. —■ Lighthouse, 1; Moi. 2Alice, 3. Richard, Pyrainus, and Druggist made up the field. I'yrmnuß refused tlio jumps. Lighthouse won rather easily from Moi. Hunt Club Steeplechase. Coastguard ... ... ... 1 Puketoi ... ... ... 2 Pyrainus ... ... ... 3 Revenue, Charybdis, and Lighthouse also started. This was a splendid race, Coastguard beating l'uketoi in a sniart run home. "While holding a good position Pyrainus struck the second last hurdle or would assuredly have won. Hunters' Flat.—Flirt, 1 ; Barbarossa, 2 ; Taurekarekn, 3. Flirt won very easily. Bracelet. —Moi, 1; The Joker, 2 ; Flirt, 3. "Waiwaima also started, but fell at the second jump. "Won by six lengths. , Farewell Steeple.—"Waiwaima, 1 ; The Gift. 2. There were seven starters, and the race was exciting throughout, almost every jump bringing down two or three of the competitors. The time was not taken but it must have been about a record —for slowness.
