THE CRETAN SITUATION. HONORS FOE SIR H. ROBINSON COLONIAL FEDERATION. London, July 6. The Cretans have erected a temporary Government and proclaimed a union with Greece. The Christian delegate to the Assembly has resigned. Greece has been warned to prevent •the shipment of arms to Crete, the inhabitants are advised to submit to Turkey. Sir Hercules Robinson has been elevated to the Peerage, and will return to the Cape shortly. Referring to the question of trade and federation, the London Timea declares if other Australian colonies unite with Australia in maintaining a standard of produce it would in itself constitute federation, and, in combination with defence federation, this would hasten political federation. Washington, .July 7. At the Chicago Convention the silver party reckon they have 021 delegates on their ticket.
