IMPERIAL ZOLLVEP.EIN. A CHRISTIAN GOVERNOR FOR CRETE. ATTEMPT ON THE LIFE OF THE SHAH OF PERSIA. ATLANTIC MAIL SERVICE. London, June 29. At a banquet at the Cobden Club the speakers condemned the Imperial zollverein as impracticable. A Christian having been appointed Governor of Crete, Moslems are asking to be allowed to emigrate if reforms are to go on. An attempt has been made on the life of the young Shah of Persia by the members of a secret society. The would-be; assassin was arrested. Portuguese troops are protecting the Beira railway. Allan and Co. ask £22-3,000 per annum for a fast Atlantic mail service.
