The weather was again fine, and the the attendance very large, although not equal to that of the first day. The Englishmen resumed their first innings with eight wickets down for 286 runs, but only succeeded in adding G rims, the innings closing for 292. (> Hayward, not out ... ... 12 Total 292 The Australians, with 239 runs to the bad, began their second innings, and their display on this occasion was a marked improvement on their first essay, the board showing 317 when the last wicket fell. Darling and Eady were quickly disposed of, but Giften and Trott made a decided stand, and treated the field to some leather-hunting, put on .39 runs in 50 minutes. Richardson eventually got one past Gitlen. Gregory joined the captain, and although he played a few up he gave a masterly exhibition of batting. All the bowling talent on the English side was tried, but tiny were all treated alike, Richardson particularly being driven all over the field. Gregory was eventually caught in the slips by a brilliant eflort when he had made 103, which included seventeen is. Trott was dismissed six runs later, after a brilliant innings of 113, among which was twenty-four 4's. Trott had two or three chances, and the Englishmen say that he was caught when he had made 6. Both Gregory and Trott received a great ovation from the crowd for their spirited hitting. The remaining batsmen made a poor stand, with the exception of Kelly. With the assistance of Donnan, who injured his hand in the first innings, Kelly made a useful stand for the last wicket, hitting out freely.
