THE ST. LOUIS CONVENTION. Washington - , -Tune 10. The St. Louis Republican Convention by 800 to 106 adopted the gold standard. The reference made to the Monroe doc-trine, Cuban autoniony, the refusal to allow foreign Powers to interefere in Hawaii, purchase of the Danish West Indies, the hope that Europeans will eventually withdraw from America, and that in the meantime they will not be permitted to extend their territory in this hemisphere, were passages in the platform that were most loudly applauded. The silver men protested that they had been betrayed, and 21 retired from the Convention. They were hissed as they went. Major M'Kinley received nomination on the first ballot by G62 against :>OO divided amongst five other candidates. Mr Reed secured 84. The excitement during the ballot ting was at its highest pitch.
