— THE SUSPENDED JUDGE

THE OUTBREAK IN MASHONALAND. ' THE POSITION SERIOUS. NINE MEN MURDERED. THE PROSECUTION OF RHODES DEMANDED. Peetoria, June 19. Mr B. do Korte, one of the Judges of the Criminal Court of the Transvaal, was suspended by President Kruger, who believed that the Judge was bribed by Mr Lionel Phillips, one of the Reform leaders. He was acquitted on the charge of misconduct, but was censured for conduct unbecoming a Judge. Capetown, June 19. A new outbreak has occurred in Mashonaland, and the position is becoming serious owing to the isolation of the homesteads. Nine white men so far have been murdered. The Muzeze settlers have been ordered into the laager at Fort Salisbury. Some of the Chartered Company's mounted men, also 200 Cape mounted men, have been ordered to proceed to Mashonaland, via Reira. Captains Beale and Spreekley'a columns have been ordered to Fort Salisbury, and the Imperial troops at Mafeking will proceed to Macloustie. Dr Leyds, the Transvaal Secretary of State, has cabled to the British Government to the effect that the welfare and peace of Africa require that Mr Cecil Rhodes should be brought to trial for the recent disturbance. He adds that the best proofs are in the possession of Mr Chamberlain, which justify and should compel him to take action. Dr Leyds also expresses regret at the delay that has taken place in making inquiry into the raid, and further urges that the British South Africa Company should be deprived of civil control.
