TIIAI NI N G NOTE S. [By Gii-sy Grand.] The course was in a very damp state this morning, and consequently horses were restricted to steady work. A number of touts put in an appearance, hut nothing sensational was witnessed. Wikitoria, associated with Direct Veto for two rounds, was the first to move. The mare showed the way all through the journey, and at the finish left the big horse about a dozen lengths in the rear. Zanzibar was sent over three miles at a slow pace. Lotion was sent twice round at threequarter pace, moving very freely. Glengarry was sent twice round on the flat at half pace. Tomoarangi put in strong work over a couple of miles. Senip Iron 11. was brushed along for two miles. The son of Martini-Eniield is a greatly-improved horse, and will have to be reckoned with next week. Lord Raven put in serviceable work over two miles, going very freely. New Forest was sent a couple of rounds with the sweaters on. The Shearer and Hopeful were worked oil the Hat. Sabreur. Forty Winks, and Hippodrome were associated over a couple of miles at half pace. rriimila. Solitaire, and Daring were also worked together for two miles. Revolt put in some good work on the flat, the son of Treason looking as well as ever. Dauntless, Defiance, and Mars put in a slow two circuits. The Plug and T Rose wei* sent three times round over the steeple country ; the last two they were joined by Yaletta. The three horses jumped wonderfully Well. Conscript and Mystical put in slow work on the Hat. Spermacetti. the [Maiden Steeplechase candidate, did a sound working gallop over swo rounds. Booties compassed three circuits in good style. He was taken along by Ulysses for the first two rounds. He appears to have done a lot of work. Otaieri did a sound working gallop of about a mile and a half. Uiis liorse looks ill the pink of condition. EAC IN G ITEMS. The Sharper. Mutiny, Tiritea, Donald McKinnon. and St Regel arrived from Auckland this morning to fulfil their local engagements. Mr T. Connop scratched both Lotion and New Forest immediately the weights appeared. I think he had good reason for scratching the latter, as he was harshly treated on his form the last two seasons. Why he should be asked to give weight to Sylvanus is a niysur/.
