Stipendiary Magistrate's Court.

FRIDAY, JUNE 19, 1890. (Before Messrs Beilby and McLeod. J.'s P.) At the S.M. Court this morning, a number of cases were disposed of. A remand was granted to Invercargill in the ease of a young man charged with stealing three casks and one oil-drum, valued at £3, and in which there appeared to be a misunderstanding. A. Frith (butcher) v. J. Scott, claim 18s. Mr Lewis for plaintiff. .Judgment for amount claimed with costs, 6s. J. Myall v. W. Winnicker, judgment for £3 18s, 15s costs. Stubbs, Paterson and Co. v. I. Haupeku, judgment summons £3. Amount to be paid or seven days in Napier gaol, order to be suspended for six weeks. Land and Heighwav v. Oaki Tenei, judgment summons for £l4 Is 6d, Mr Lewis appeared for plaintiff. Amount to be paid or 14 days in Napier gaol, order suspended for six weeks. G. H. Williams v. A. Levi, claim £l4. Adjourned without costs to the 3rd of July by the order of the Court. Stubbs, Paterson and Co. v. P. Teura, claim £l3 18s 9d, amount of a promissory note given by defendant. Mr Scannell, for defendant, raised some technical objections. Judgment for plaintiff with costs, £1 6s. Mr Scannell gave notice of appeal. Mr Lewis appeared for the plaintiffs. Reimo Pawa v. Mimo Tomonga.— Defendant was alleged to have taken a mare of plaintiffs and rode her to death. Plaintiff sued for the sum of £2O. Mr Taiaroa acted as interpreter. Plaintiff was nonsuited with costs, amounting to £5 ss. W. A. Beecroft v. G. Durham.—Mr Lewis for plaintiff, Mr Lee for defendant. A case for the recovery of ss, hire of a horse from plaintiff in 1892. In defence it was stated that Durham never hired the horse. Had an appointment on the date in question with a Mr Elliott to inspect some sheep with a view to purchasing. Elliott provided the horse, and if he hired it from Beecroft he alone was responsible. Judgment for plaintiff for os, with costs, 265.
