THE AUSTRALIANS AT HOME.

AGAINST M.C.C. AND GROUND THE AUSTRALIANS MAKE A MISERABLE STAND. ALL OUT FOR 18 RUNS. London, June 11.

The match against M.C.C. and Ground commenced at Lords to-day. The attendance was very large, and a splendid wicket had been prepared, but recent rains made it rather heavy.

The Home team were the first to bat, and compiled 219, as follows :—- Grace, bowled ... ... 15 Stoddart, stumped ... 54 Ranjitsinhji, bowled ... 7 Jackson, caught ... 51 Gmm, bowled ... ... 39 McGregor, bowled ... 0 Davidson, bowled ... 0 Marchant, bowled ... 20 Pougher, not out ... 9 ; Attewell, bowled ... 7 •J. Hearne, bowled ... 1 Extras ... ... 16 Total ... 219 Stoddart and Jackson when associated showed excellent cricket. Each batsman, however, had a life. Gunn got his rims in a stylish manner. Trumble took six wickets for 84 runs, M'Kibbin three for 52, Trott one for 85,-and Gifl'en none for 38. Hearne and Attewell took up the bowling when the colonials' innings opened, and there was trouble from the start. When Graham had made 4 he played a ball on, and Trott was beaten when he had made 6. Pougher went on at Attewell's end when the score stood at 18, a complete collapse took place, not a single run being added to the score. Pougher, who took five wickets for no runs, got a tremendous work on the ball, and was I perfectly unplayable. Kelly (8) was the only other batsman to score, the remaining number —lredale, Gregory, Hill, Trumble, Eady, M'Kibbin, Darling (not out) —- having the unenviable "duck" opposite their names. Gilfen, who is suffering from inflammation of the eyes and sciatica, did not bat. Besides Pougher in the bowling, Hearne four wickets for 4 runs. The Australians followed on, and lost two wickets for 25 runs at the call of time.

Ivelly, bowled ... ... 0 Graham, bowled ... 5 Trott, not out ... ... 14 Gregory, not out ... 6
