THE RECENT ENGAGEMENT. THE EGYPTIANS FOUGIIT SPLENDIDLY. London, .Tune 9.
The Standard's correspondent says the Soudanese troops appropriated the women who were taken prisoners after the fight at Ferkeh. The Dervish camp, with great quantities of supplies, was captured. Cairo, June 9. Captain Kitchener, commanding the forces, reports that in the recent engagement the Egyptian allies behaved splendidly. Four hundred and fifty prisoners were taken. Hammuda and several other Emirs were killed.
Menelek, ruler of Abyssinia, has informed the Khalifa that although they hare religious differences, their interests are identical, and he asserts that he is prepared to assist the Khalifa. It is suspected that the French and Russian agents are prompting Menelek. June 10. The Khalifa lost the best of his fighting men at Ferkeh and 80 Emirs. Sirdar has sent infantry to hold Suarda. The enemy's grain boats wore captured and all the Dervishes north of Snarda killed or captured. The Egyptian forces hold the Nile Valley to that point.
The decision of thy Mixed Tribunal respecting the advance of £300,000 by the Caisse Pe La Dette has been appealed against.
