After the public examination of the directors of the Loan and Mercantile Co., the Right Hon. A. -J. Mandolin who held Cabinet rank in the Rosebory Government, was obliged to vesica his position as a Minister of the Crown. This established a wholesome precedent which will doubtless be followed in all similar cases throughout the British Empire. We are sorry, but it must be said without hesitation that Mr Ward has forfeited the confidence of the public and cannot retain his position as Colonial Treasurer.
