The Premier's address at the Skating Rink last night was listened to by a very large audience. Mr Seddon spoke for two hours and a half, his speech being on the lines of recent addresses. A motion thanking the Premier for his administration was carried almost unanimously.
Mr Ziman arrived from the West Coast yesterday in connection with the strike of miners at Reef ton. lie explains that the reduction was made at the instance of the London boar-! of directors; and that under the new system the men will be better off, as the work will l>e constant. Besides, over one thousand men will be employed on a field which hitherto found work for only one-quarter that number. Mr Ziman is anxious to have the matter amicably settled; but should the men prove unreasonable he is prepared to fill their places. Everything is reiwted ready for the opening of Parliament to-morrow, and members have already begun to arrive.
