The Gear Meat Company will pay mi interim dividend for the half-year at the rate of 10 per cent per ammm. The hull, gear, and cargo of the submerged barque C'oromandel was sold at auction to Mr Alexander Sutherland, Wellington, for £320. At the Supreme Court David Raining was acquitted on a charge of having assaulted a Chinaman. Delegates representing the Working Men's Clubs in the colony will probably meet in Wellington about the 25th instant to discuss matters and take action with reference to the Licensing Bill to be submitted to Parliament, and having special reference to clubs.
Constable Murphy accompanies Sergeant Kiely and Detective Xeill to Sydney for the purpose of bringing back Kirby and Bassett. Constable -Johnston was unable to go as he is bound over as a witness in a Supreme Court case against Mrs Loeher for attempted murder, which begins to-morrow. When the local police communicated with the Sydney police requesting them to look out for" Kirby, the mentioned fugitive was well-known to Detective Draper of the Sydney force, so that there can be no doubt as to the prisoner's identity. The body of a young woman, Alice Tavanor, was found in the harbor this morning- She was last seen on Sunday night. It is supposed she committed suicide. PrxF.MN. June 8. At the annual meeting of the Perpetual Trustees Estate and Agency Company the chairman said the net profits for the year was £1677, after ■writing off various amounts,. After paying a dividend of 12§ per cent, there remains £OOI to be carried forward. The company hold on mortgage securities for about £287,000. The report was adopted, and the Hon. W. D. Stuart and T. Moodle re-elected directors. The Episcopal silver jubilee of l)r Neville, Anglican Bishop, was celebrated to-night by a social. The en. Archdeacon Edwards presented an address on behalf of the clergy. Mr B. C. Hagtritt presented an address from the laity signed by about 4000, and also handed the Bishop a purse of sovereigns. Ib absence of tho Major, through illness, Mr H. F. Hardy presented an address from former residents of Dunedin in Wellington. The Bishop
replied to each address. He said he had no doubt he had been directed by the He;id of the Church to come here K ;;!Uj-o when he first visited New Zealand he had no idea of being ]!i-!iop of Dunedin.
